Attitude is said to be everything. That’s because it is. Attitude is not about touchy-feely platitudes or thinking positive no matter what – sometimes, bad things happen, and it’s healthy to feel our genuine feelings about them. It is how we look at and interpret life overall, our own and everyone else’s. Our attitude defines who we are and what we become. It is a skill that can be learned, and that must be practiced. It is a tool that can be used. We can’t always choose the things that happen to us (although the choices we make sometimes cause those things to happen). We can, however, choose our attitude – how we react, how we interpret, how we cope, how we act.

Learn. Learning is the greatest gift we give ourselves. Learning can transform us from nobody to somebody – it is the great equalizer. To not learn as much as we can is to disrespect the gift of life. In learning, we must also ask questions. That’s good, because we need to listen more and talk less. There is knowledge all around us… we just have to listen for the answer. To listen is to learn and to learn is to grow.

Value your life and spirit. Too many people live another “V”: Victim. It’s true – bad things happen to good people, and there are real victims in the world. The trouble occurs when we adopt an attitude and identity of Victimhood; after all, there is no answer to the question “Why Me?” Even worse, Victims often get stuck in their past when what they need is to live for today and move toward the future. When you focus on moving forward, you never know what you’ll discover. Everyone has value…finding it, that’s the trick.

Imagine. Imagination is the key that unlocks your power of potential. It is not owned by the young, but they are best at using it. It defines the difference between Obstacles and Possibilities! Imagination leads to dreams, and dreams make life worth living. Dreams can come true…this I know.

Never give up! Easy to say, hard to do. The biggest enemy we will ever have is the one we encounter every time we look in a mirror. Yet mirrors do not reflect who we truly are…our lives do. Our lives are the sum of our choices, our risks, our actions and our attitude. If you’re not happy with your life, it’s never too late to rewrite your story.
